I started wearing contacts and I am going to order my second time. My doctor said I had a slight Astigmatism, so he said I should get toric lenses, so I did. But this is at Americans Best and they are a company so they want me to buy the more expansive ones. He was a little sketchy explaining why I should use toric ones instead of normal ones since I only had a slight problem. So what would happen, (the effect) if I wore none-astigmatism lenses? Im just sort of wondering. Thanks in advance

i find one person per day claiming to be a med student who answers some question here incorrectly. i think you guys probably need to stick to non-eye questions until you study some more or something lol
there is no “abnormal folding” of the cornea in astigmatism. what a strange statement.
astigmatism = cylindrical component to corneal shape
Go talk to an optometrist that isn’t associated with such a company as American’s Best. You will probably need toric lenses–if you get contacts that don’t work for an astigmatism, your vision won’t be sharp enough. Thus, you might just end up throwing away the lenses and buying the toric ones–that is a waste of money. But go ahead and talk to a local optometrist just to make sure you need the toric lenses.
I speak from experience when I say an astigmatism of even .50 diopters (which isn’t really a severe astigmatism at all) makes things hard to see. I’d suggest that you correct all your problems, if possible.
What is your glasses/contancts perscription, anyhow?
Your eyes may ot focus well all the time and you could get headaches. It shouldn’t make it worse, but if you are driving and your eyesight suddenly goes blurry no matter how much you blink, you have a problem and should get the toric glasses.
if you have astigmatism and need toric lenses then that’s what i would get b/c it means that your eye is shaped differently and you need spacial lens
astigmatic people have abnormal folding of the cornea, thats the clear area over your iris. Its causes skewing of light as light enters your eye. Effects vary depending on severity, from negligible to ‘totally-impairs-vision’. Basically you would have problems with alignment like mismatched horizontal lies. The lenses used to correct astigmatism use cylindrical ones which correct the way light enters your eyes.
I agree that you should see an ophthalmologist for appropriate medical consultation. hope this helped.
i think it not a big deal as it will be as if u wearing your old lenses &sure u sight will not change just for not using the proper contacts ….
if you don’t wear lenses that address the astigmatism issue then your vision will be a bit blurry. It will be blurrier the worse the astigmatism is.
America’s Best is not a good place to go for advice. Go see a real optometrist. I don’t know what toric lenses are. I had an astigmatism, and for 15 yrs I wore rigid gas permeable lenses. If your astigmatism is not bad, there are soft lenses available. Even if your astigmatism is slight, it should be corrected. It messes with your hand-eye coordination, and it could get worse if not corrected. (not in the same way, don’t know if your astigmatism is caused by a flat spot on lens or cornea, or the shape of your pupils).
By the way, I had LASIK last fall, correcting my myopia and my astigmatism!
If you’re just borderline with astigmatism, you can get by. But if it’s more than that, you’ll notice it in your vision. It just means that your eyes have trouble focusing on minute things.
If you have an astigmatism then you need to wear toric lenses.
