I currently have to wear glasses. I have pretty poor vision (although I know people with worse vision who have used contact lenses). I already know (or at least have access to) my prescription, so how expensive would it be to try contact lenses? I can’t seem to find price lists anywhere.

When you go for an eye exam, most ophthalmologists will give you a trial pair of your prescription. Depending on the type (daily, bi-weekly, monthly) they will have you come back some time later for a contact fitting where they make sure the contact is fitting properly in your eye. If they are uncomfortable or a bad fit most Dr’s. will give you a different brand to try (for free). I had to try 6 different kinds before I found one I like (it took about 3 months of freebies) Once you know the brand and type you are going with you can call 1-800 contacts or call any Costco, Sam’s or eye Dr. and they will give you a price quote. I change mine every two weeks and a six month supply cost just under $100. I think that is about average.
Alot of eye doctors offices have free samples. There is no prescription on the lense but you can just try it to see if you can get use to the feel. Some people have a really hard time and just cant get use to the lenses. Dont commit to buying anything untill you try some samples!
