It depends a bit on the power and the base curve (b.c.; the curvature of your eyes), but usually it should not be too expensive. Depending on your personal preference you can choose for daily, (two) weekly or monthly disposable lenses. Usually the shorter the life time of the lenses, the more expensive wearing them over time is.
My girlfriend for example uses Biomedics 55 (see http://www.smartbuyglasses.com/contact-l… ), which are monthly disposable lenses. I think these cost her around 65 dollars a year (excluding cleaning kit), so that is still affordable.
Please be aware that if it is the first time you order contact lenses, you first need to get a prescription at your eye doctor. That is because the prescription for your contact lenses is different from the one of your eyeglasses. Besides that, during the first consult your eye doctor will teach you how to get them in and out, while he also will give you a lot of tips for wearing and cleaning.
    Hope this helps.

I pay slightly under $600 a year for my disposables and then around $20 ever two months for the cleaning solution. If you have health care insurance then you *may* get some of this back (I think I get around $200 or so back from my health insurance).
Please note that you will still have to put your contacts in every day and take them out (which is a lot harder than simply putting glasses on).
