In a world-first breakthrough, UNSW medical researchers have used stem cells cultured on a simple contact lens to restore sight to sufferers of blinding corneal disease. So, as long as it doesn’t affect you, there shouldn’t be a cure. Got it! Quite a humanist, you are.
But WHERE do you think it could lead?! Nuclear was made with the best of intentions???? No, it was made to engage in warfare(the fact that it help stop a war doesn’t detract from that); also, it caused another “war” called cold war, provoked by escalation of nuclear power.
If I could predict the future, I’d tell ya, but sadly I don’t have the capabilities. Yes they were made to engage in warfare, but people didn’t know that it would cause cancer and all that stuff after. Its not like they wanted to maim another society on purpose, simply take care of business.
And if you go back to what I wrote and actually READ it, I said that I would hate if anything happen to mine, but things HAVE TO HAPPEN. I didn’t say everyone else but mine can die.
What is it that you’re trying to prove? I basically have said that I don’t trust people with unchecked power. Do you disagree or not?
I just don’t see any danger in Stem Cell research and find your lack of faith in the science community to be nonsensical.
Government and military need to be watched at all times, but the scientific community builds on sharing information and knowledge and as such, it is far from dangerous.
The people who you feel need to be watched, governments and the military turn to science. Where do you think nuclear weapons came from? They don’t just fall out of the sky.
but it isn’t the science community that will misuse knowledge. You see, you can’t and you should never stop progress. What you must do is control the use of knowledge when it becomes malignant. Science provides the knowledge, the military and government are prone to misusing it, so they are the ones that need to be controlled.
I never said that progress should be stopped. Also, the government and military are in with the scientists, but they also have power to do what they want with the knowledge.
Either way, we’re just going in circles. To address the initial problem: I distrust unchecked power, science can be used as a weapon, so I am a little hesitant towards new technologies. I never said I am against stem cell research. No worries.
I’m just glad we have made a major break through with stem cell i like to see results and I’m all for anything that gives people hope.
Anything for the advancement of science and the human race.
Maybe after we evolve a bit we will stop believing in foolish things such as god and stop thinking so radically eh?
Technology is simply put …applied knowledge! It is neither good nor bad. It is just a tool.
Fire is a good example of technology. You can use it to warm your home or set your neighbor on fire. Nuclear is just a more powerful tool and Nanotech, Biotech and Robotics will result in very powerful applied knowledge. The solution is never ignorance or ludditism. However all human freedoms and liberties require a degree of responsibilities in a free civil society.

My friend just forward this to me, saying I had to see this. I’m crying now out of joy since I am considered legally blind in one eye. At this rate, hopefully I’d be able to see in 10 years!
what about people with myopia or astigmatisms? does this require any slicing of the eye like in laser eye surgery? interesting.
Great. so they can make cripple children, who need surgery too, and make more cripple people, until we all wont survive without their procedures. Natures (or Gods if you are relirious) solution is for such people to have *disadvantages*, so humanity gets *better*.
Good job, fucking up humanity! Really! I hope we die out. We deserve it!
You make no sense.
Em, what?
what colour crayon did you use to compose that nuanced response?
Hot damn, I attend UNSW and I’d personally like to go up and shake the researchers who developed this solution because it’s god damn amazing. Just have to find them first.
Brilliant.
What the FUCK are you talking about?
does anyone know if this can help eye refractive disorders? or if incision is required like laser eye surgery? i volunteer myself to any experiments with this technology on curing refractive disorder, my glasses/ contacts are -2.25. thanks.
Wait, you want to -shake- them? o_O
Or you want to shake their hands?
The second one
He is the fucking MAN
GOD BLESS
Nick!!!!
