Hi Nadine. I have been trying to go about things step by step but I can definitely see why it appeals. I’ve been paying into health insurance for over a year and a half, which will most likely cover nothing. Therapy is over $100 per hour and as of a few months ago we no longer have an endocrinologist in our area.
yeah i understand the frustration. Here i am 10 yrs full time and still pre-op because i couldnt afford it and now that the province pays for it, im living in the middle of nowhere and getting nowhere thru the system. I get presription refills from a walk in clinic, so, yeah it is so frustrating i want to cry, but a do it yourself approach is just plain unhealthy.
In conversation with a friend who does some trans counseling I asked about endos, and he said there are some endos who will prescribe hormones without needing a letter from a psych. The old “Benjamin” system is slowly starting to crumble. You needn’t find yourself bound by the sexist and transphobic gatekeepers. The DSM and SoC are just guidelines, not hard-and-fast rules or laws. Find a sympathetic caregiver. They do exist.
